In 2000, the UAG School of Medicine received approval from the State of New York due to its high educational quality, with its International Program for American students standing out. That same year, the Tabasco Campus was founded in Villahermosa, offering 21 bachelor's degrees, 26 specialties, and 19 master's programs. Additionally, the university launched its first Mechatronics Engineering program, marking a significant advancement in its academic offerings.
In 2002, the UAG's Medicine in the Community Program received an Honorable Mention at the National Volunteer Award, recognized for its social impact. In 2004, the School of Medicine was acknowledged by the Mexican Council for Medical Accreditation (COMAEM) for its academic excellence. That same year, the Senate of the Republic and the Congress of the State of Jalisco awarded UAG recognitions for its 70 years of history, highlighting it as a pillar of the national education system and for its outstanding educational work.
In 2005, UAG celebrated its 70th anniversary, and Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes assumed the role of the fifth rector, leading a new phase of development and institutional strengthening.
The Vanguardia Program was launched, which transformed most academic programs from semester-based to quarterly systems, allowing for better use of students' time. With this program, the university aimed to enhance the academic experience and optimize educational outcomes.
