Mobility and Community

The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in the 1960s:

Mobility and Community

The decade of the 1960s represented a period of significant growth, academic professionalization, and strengthening of ties with its alumni community for the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG). During these years, the institution consolidated its role as a pioneer in key areas such as faculty mobility, engagement with its graduates, and expansion of its university infrastructure.

In 1964, the UAG marked a milestone by becoming the first university in Mexico to implement a formal program of faculty mobility and development. A select group of professors traveled to Houston, Texas, to pursue specialized graduate studies in education.

Formation of the Alumni Association

In 1965, UAG took a pivotal step by creating an organization dedicated to maintaining and strengthening its connection with alumni: the Alumni Association of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.

This association was conceived as a bridge between the university and its graduates, enabling not only continued contact with those who had passed through its classrooms but also fostering professional collaboration, the development of joint projects, and a sense of belonging to a constantly growing university community.

1968: Beginning of the Construction of the University City

In 1968, the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara embarked on one of the most ambitious projects in its history: the construction of the University City, a development designed to meet the growing academic, cultural, and sports needs of the university community.

This new space not only represented a physical expansion but also a commitment to modernizing educational infrastructure. With facilities designed for teaching, research, and campus life, University City became a symbol of UAG's continuous growth and a benchmark for other educational institutions in the country.
